I'm currently on Windows 10 build 1709 and I'm not able to use command prompt at all. It opens for one second and then closes out immediately.As far as I can remember, one of my more frequently used batch/exe programs was last working properly in September so something must have happened between then and now.I have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Windows Defender, some other various anti-virus software and nothing shows up as infected. I used Windows Powershell to execute a SFC /scannow command and it found nothing wrong.
I also booted the PC in safe mode and tried to see if command prompt opens and it still closes out immediately. I have also tried to launch it with Administrator rights (even though my account is Administrator status) with no results.I have searched many forums and websites and have seen similar complaints, but I haven't been able to find a solution. 1709.After reading your reply, I have since reverted the changes and after a reboot, my sound is still working fine so I guess that problem got fixed at some point. However, the command prompt window is still closing immediately.As far as I can tell, I do believe all of my drivers are up to date. It's the actual vendor drivers (Creative) that I'm using, but just to make absolutely sure of it, I uninstalled the drivers, downloaded the latest drivers (same one's that I had originally edited) and installed them again. I am also able to launch control panel and the sound applet just fine but command prompt still closes immediately.As a side note, since the introduction of the Anniversary update, whenever I reboot and reach the desktop, a blank command prompt window remains minimized until all of my system tray auto start applications have fully loaded (when I click on it, it just shows this: ). I have just been assuming this is an unintended bug that displays when tasks get launched during start up, but I figured I might as well toss that out there if it's not a common issue. Hi, well MB has quarantined the errant entry, however you may still be infected, you really only need windows defender and windows defender firewall, any other AV you had (no matter how long ago) you should google for their uninstall util and run it, Spybot is deprecated on win 10, Malwarbytes (once the free version kicks in), will suffice. There is no need to add shell to HKCU, it is not there by default in win 10.HKEYCURRENTUSERSoftwareMicrosoftCommand Processor, may have had an Auto run mod applied however it is extremely unlikely, since a errant entry would typically be targeted at the HKLM (system wide), just as the shell modification to HKCU, should have been targeted elsewhere. I believe the OP has not revealed the extent of their activities, and therefore most likely this is self inflicted.
