That's why the developers invented the so-called Tower Defense genre, with defending side having only static towers and attackers going the predefined road, wave by wave.Plants vs. Zombies series by PopCap is a total extravaganza of this genre, but extravagant games like Angry Birds are always appreciated. So there was an all-platform boom, and then there was a sequel. The free Plants vs Zombies 2 has already attracted over 50 million users on Android only, not considering Apple or PC.
Like with other hit games, the developers decided to keep the original game alive with various updates and add-ons instead of making sequels. So the 2012 reviews of the game are now as obsolete as APKs of that time. Let’s see it anew. Graphics 5/5.
Though the original story only took one yard you had to protect from zombies with plants, later the story grew more details. So now you have a great lot of locations (including Ancient Egypt, pre-Colombian America and other time-and-space travel feats), an enormous variety of zombies and a great selection of plants to grow. And yes, they are all distinguishable and looking very detailed, though, of course, a bit cartoonish.Watching the cabbages be thrown from a green catapult, walnuts stand the ground, other plants serve-and-protect makes you feel like you’re in a toon you watch, a bit childish, a bit absurd and magic beyond any limits. That’s mostly the work of the designers. They have brought this illogical and funny world to life.If you’re in that postmodern state of mind, you’ll recognize numerous allusions hidden in characters’ appearance.
It's a well-known story about a zombie dancing like Michael Jackson that was revamped after a copyright issue. And fans know that the game should have been named Lawn of the Dead, but for the same reasons, this pun name was not used. But there are still numerous allusions and Easter eggs inside the game, so keep your eyes open.No matter what’s the size of your screen, you’ll enjoy all the details, unless you’re using an old-old 2.8 phone, but hey, will its retired hardware run this game at all? Gameplay 5/5The game has all it takes for a mobile strategy to look great both on smartphones and on tablets. The variety of characters (both plants and zombies) is so impressive that the game even has its own wiki project with articles on all the types of them. There’s also a built-in encyclopedia telling a little about each character, with a funny picture and easily readable text. And the neighbor with his intelligent talking time machine brings in the final accord of absurd to make the extravaganza complete.Making the missions different is what saves the game from becoming boring. The mission to stand the ground (literally!) with plants squads is suddenly brought into Ancient Egypt, with zombies looking like mummies and wearing camel-flage (sic!).
On some levels you don’t have to plant the plants as the conveyer line brings them to you. And there are levels with no plants at all; some of them only require magic as they introduce these skills for later usage, and some are rather puzzles where you have to match pairs from hidden pics on zombies to zap them off.Meanwhile, you can take care of your Zen Garden you find the plants for as bonuses for your victories. If you water those plants, they bring you more coins. It would be a little exaggerating to call Plants vs. Zombies “free game”. Yes, there are all these attractive things like Plants vs. Zombies free download, and it even won’t bother you on first levels.
But the further you progress, the more important it becomes to inject some real money into this dry world. After all, there are some extremely powerful plants that are only available for some money. They only need to be purchased once and remain available after, so it’s worth considering buying them instead of coins in case you really want to pay for your Plants vs Zombies download and support the developers. Controls 4/5There’s no surprise at all, the game is totally touch-based.
It requires no additional control devices; yet if you already own some OTG or Bluetooth gamepad or joystick, you will hardly make any use of it.The large elements are easily accessible both on tablets and on smartphones, so mistaps will probably be rare. Replay Value 4.5/5It’s hardly feasible that one goes through this game to the end and decides to replay it again; it would be wiser to enjoy new updates. But is you have lost your account with all its progress somehow, it won’t be a dull time massacre to regain what you have lost. The game is quite replayable, especially if you haven’t been playing it for some months or years.
The Bottom LinePlants vs Zombies game fans have highly appreciated is still the game worth your attention, especially after growing all those years. So if you have quit it two or three years ago, you’ll discover a totally new world with numerous new missions, characters, achievements and even interludes. But what remains intact is the need to constantly water this game with some cash, like a plant in Zen Garden. Otherwise, your experience may suffer and fall into series of hopeless trials.
Though it’s theoretically possible to win without payments, it requires extreme gaming skills. We must note that the game is either unavailable or poorly translated in languages different from English, except for five European languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and German). But it’s still better to play the original version to appreciate its dialogues, naming puns and the whole ambiance.Collapse. Zombies 2 v.5.5.1 for Android 4.1+ Nov. 14, 2016.
